“I believe in a Ward 1 where everyone belongs and can afford to live here - no matter their walk of life or income.”
Meet Rashida
Rashida is ready to harness her long career in public service to deliver lasting, meaningful progress for Ward 1 residents. A Howard University graduate, 20-year Ward 1 resident, and a five-term ANC Commissioner representing the Park View neighborhood, Rashida listens to the community, advocates for residents, and delivers for our neighborhoods.
Results, not just promises.
She’ll fight to expand access to affordable housing, to protect immigrant neighbors and against federal overreach, to invest in interventions proven to reduce crime and build safer communities, and to address resident concerns through responsive constituent services and connecting residents with the government services they need.
Ready to deliver on Day One.
While others talk about affordable housing, Rashida actually created it—456 housing units with 60% of them affordable, through the Park Morton and Bruce Monroe projects. While others discuss public safety, she was one of the original founders and helped lead Georgia Avenue Thrive, bringing together residents, businesses, and government to address root causes and promote crime prevention. While others were discussing making child care affordable, Rashida was helping develop MyChildCare DC and Thrive by Five, expanding access to affordable, high-quality care for working families across DC.
On the DC Council, Rashida will keep fighting—and delivering—for Ward 1 residents.
Rashida’s
Top Priorities
Housing &
Homelessness
Rashida will champion housing policies that lead to more affordable homes, preserve existing affordability and tenant protections, and ensure that Ward 1 remains a diverse and inclusive community for all residents at all income levels.
Early Education &
K-12 Education
Rashida will champion education policies that center teacher voice, support student wellness, strengthen school-community partnerships, and ensure every Ward 1 family has access to high-quality, equitable educational opportunities—from early childhood through college and career. Every child deserves to be in school, learning and thriving. Rashida believes when kids are chronically absent, it's our job to ask why and fix the problems—not punish the child. That's what real support looks like.

“When women lead, we bring people together to support working families, seniors, our most vulnerable residents - we get things done. For more than a decade, Rashida and I have been getting things done together in Ward 1, and I saw firsthand when she was my own Commissioner how she effectively delivered for her constituents on all things large and small. She has my enthusiastic endorsement for DC Council. There’s nobody better prepared to fight for Ward 1 and DC, and she has my trust and support.”
