“I believe in a Ward 1 where everyone belongs and can afford to live here - no matter their walk of life or income.”
Meet Rashida
Active Democrat Rashida Brown is proud to have deep roots in Ward 1. Having lived in Park View for nearly 20 years, earned a degree from Howard University, and served on her Advisory Neighborhood Commission since 2015 in the very community that educated her, Rashida is no stranger to being a leading voice in our community.
Her 20+ year career in public service has instilled in her fundamental values rooted in service, social justice and integrity, and given her the tools to deliver lasting policies that have improved public safety, lowered childcare costs, and increased access to affordable housing across the District.
Rashida has a proven track record of delivering for Ward 1 by:
Expanding access to affordable & quality childcare by helping develop key government initiatives like My Child Care DC and Thrive by Five, allowing more DC families to have quality childcare services.
Increasing access to affordable housing by fighting to secure funding, zoning and D.C. Council approval for for more than 400 units of affordable housing.
Improving transportation safety by working with the DDOT to deliver traffic calming measures and protected bike lanes.
Boosting public safety and small business support by co-founding and leading Georgia Avenue Thrive, a task force working to build an inclusive, connected and vibrant community for neighbors, businesses, and visitors of Lower Georgia Avenue.
Rooted in Ward 1, Delivering for All.
Rashida is running for DC Council to ensure Ward 1 residents’ voices don’t go unheard — our community deserves an advocate who will fight tirelessly to better our everyday lives. If elected, Rashida would be the first Black woman to represent Ward 1.
Rashida’s
Top Priorities
Housing &
Homelessness
Rashida will champion housing policies that lead to more affordable homes, preserve existing affordability and tenant protections, and ensure that Ward 1 remains a diverse and inclusive community for all residents at all income levels.
Early Education &
K-12 Education
Rashida will champion education policies that center teacher voice, support student wellness, strengthen school-community partnerships, and ensure every Ward 1 family has access to high-quality, equitable educational opportunities—from early childhood through college and career. Every child deserves to be in school, learning and thriving. Rashida believes when kids are chronically absent, it's our job to ask why and fix the problems—not punish the child. That's what real support looks like.
